I’ve always been struck by how deeply he loved her. Her death absolutely shattered him, and it’s become everything to him – his driving force is to make those responsible pay. But honestly, it all feels like a twisted story, almost unbelievable. It leaves me wondering so much – what does it all mean? And did she suspect anything about the danger? Was I supposed to be caught in the middle of it? He’s wrestling with these huge questions, and it’s so compelling to watch. I think he’s trying to convince himself of things, maybe because he feels awful that he wasn’t the perceptive, brilliant agent he thought he was. He feels like he’s been completely fooled, and now, suddenly, everything’s come crashing down. It’s fueled this intense determination in him – he will get revenge.
This explains his inner turmoil and mixed emotions when he confronts Toni, especially with a gun aimed at her as she pursues the dishonest CEO of the security company, Joanne Kerkering.
Ellis says Colin initially intended to kill Toni, but when he looked into her eyes, he saw a genuine love that gave him hope. It was this realization that ultimately prevented him from making a deadly choice.
Ellis emphasizes that while he didn’t kill Toni, he still hasn’t forgiven her. However, he clarifies that his feelings for her were the only reason he didn’t do it.
When Colin finally confronted her, gun pointed at her face, he saw a flicker of their past love in her eyes. That connection, that remaining love, gave him a moment of hope. I believe it was that feeling, not forgiveness or anything else, that ultimately prevented him from shooting her.
As a huge fan of CIA, I’m still reeling from Toni being alive! It’s going to completely shake things up in season 2, which is slated to premiere in fall 2026 – though we don’t have an exact date yet. It’ll be airing a bit later now, at 9 p.m. EDT, but honestly, I’ll be watching no matter what!
I really enjoyed the first season, especially watching Colin and Bill Randall Goodman build a solid working relationship and genuine trust. They’re so different, but they clearly know how to collaborate. I’m also excited to see Toni’s character get more screen time – I have a feeling she’s going to shake things up for Colin, both at work and in his personal life. It’ll be interesting to see how their interactions play out!
CIA is a new show created as part of the same universe as the series FBI, which premiered in 2018. FBI has already led to two other spin-offs, FBI: Most Wanted (now canceled) and FBI: International. The show stars Ellis alongside Nick Gehlfuss, Natalee Linez, and Necar Zadegan. Angela Sarafyan, known for her roles in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Superman, and Westworld, plays the character Toni.
