“When I was pitched to go on, they said no lol,” Gaines posted on X.
As a big TV fan, I thought her comment was really interesting. Basically, she was saying that *The View* seems to carefully choose which Republicans they’ll have on the show, and it’s not exactly a random selection.
Donald Trump Jr. Reignites Old Battle with The View
This disagreement reminded people of Donald Trump Jr.’s controversial 2019 interview on the show.
Donald Trump Jr. recalled the contentious nature of the show, alleging that Whoopi Goldberg, the moderator, became visibly angry with the audience when cameras weren’t rolling.
I appeared on The View, and it’s worth looking up the episode if you’re interested. It was particularly memorable to see Whoopi Goldberg respond to the audience when they started to disagree with her – the unedited footage, including the breaks, would be especially revealing.

Donald Trump Jr. posted on X (formerly Twitter) that an old appearance on *The View* is worth watching. He specifically highlighted a moment where Whoopi Goldberg seemed upset with the audience after they reacted negatively to something she said, calling it ‘truly epic’.
He added that Goldberg shouted at the New York audience: “This isn’t a F$&?ing MAGA rally.”
I distinctly remember telling a very liberal New York audience – and I believe I said it exactly this way – “This isn’t a MAGA rally!”
These weren’t really my friends or acquaintances. I only had around 8 to 10 tickets for a group of about 150 people in New York City, so it wasn’t like the audience was full of people who were rooting for me.
— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) October 15, 2025
Trump Jr. also accused the hosts of misleading him about the purpose of his appearance:
He explained that he’d been asked to speak about his book, so he assumed someone would bring it up during the conversation. Surprisingly, no one did.
I was also asked to discuss my book, so I assumed they had read it, but they hadn’t. Maybe their tendency to be insincere and their different treatment of Republicans discourages conservatives from participating.

Although ABC hasn’t shared recordings of the commercial breaks, several reports from that time – including one in *The Hollywood Reporter* – stated that the audience reacted so strongly during Trump’s appearance that Whoopi Goldberg had to pause the show and speak to the crowd while they weren’t on air.
The Cheryl Hines Interview Adds Fuel to the Fire
Joy Behar recently made these remarks while The View was questioning Cheryl Hines, who is married to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former Trump health official.
Things became awkward on the show when Sunny Hostin questioned whether Kennedy was experienced enough to run the Department of Health and Human Services.
Cheryl Hines and The View’s Sunny Hostin throw down over Hines’s husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“He’s connecting circumcision to autism!”
“May I finish?”

Sunny Hostin told Hines that, with all due respect, she believes the current Secretary of Health and Human Services is the least qualified person to ever hold that position, and she considers that a serious concern.
When Hines tried to speak in defense of her husband, Hostin kept cutting her off. Hines then politely asked if she could finish her thought.

Even though they disagreed at times, Whoopi Goldberg wrapped up the discussion on a positive note, thanking Hines for being willing to participate when many other well-known people avoid doing so.
Goldberg mentioned it’s rare to have someone on the show who can address these topics, and she expressed her gratitude for the guest’s appearance, inviting them to return.
A Tale of Two Guests: How The View Coddled a Convict and Attacked Conservatives
As a film and TV enthusiast, I have to say, Joy Behar’s comments about Republicans being ‘scary’ guests on *The View* really struck me as hypocritical. The show clearly isn’t afraid of controversial figures! Just earlier this year, they welcomed Anthony Weiner – a former congressman who went to prison for sending inappropriate things to a minor – with open arms. So, to pretend they’re worried about someone’s political affiliation being ‘scary’ just doesn’t add up.
Rather than accountability, Weiner received applause.
Joy Behar immediately welcomed Anthony Weiner like a longtime friend when he appeared on stage. She playfully referenced his time in prison, saying, “Anthony, when you got out of the hoosegow,” which drew laughter and applause from the audience. However, Ana Navarro remained serious, listing Weiner’s past scandals in a flat tone while the other hosts chuckled throughout the segment.
During the discussion on The View, no one mentioned that Anthony Weiner is listed on the federal sex offender registry. He was instead given the opportunity to portray his conviction as a path to self-improvement, drawing comparisons between himself and figures like Andrew Cuomo and even President Trump.
“I’m a damn good politician,” he said — and the hosts even agreed.

The atmosphere was filled with clapping, expressions of pity, and approval – directed at someone who had committed truly horrifying acts, the kind that would deeply disturb any mother or father.
The hosts of *The View* were very critical of Cheryl Hines, simply because she supports her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Sunny Hostin sharply criticized Kennedy, calling him both unqualified and dangerous to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, and Hines wasn’t given much opportunity to respond.
Let me tell you, the whole situation with Donald Trump Jr.’s appearance on *The View* sounds messy. He claims the hosts completely ignored the reason he was even there – to talk about his book! And get this – he says during commercial breaks, Whoopi Goldberg reportedly went on a rant, yelling at the audience that it wasn’t a MAGA rally. Meanwhile, they spent the whole interview giving airtime to another guest’s political comeback attempt. It just feels really one-sided and frankly, a bit unprofessional.

Let’s state this plainly: a person with a criminal record received supportive laughter, a conservative woman was unexpectedly attacked with questions, and Donald Trump experienced widespread disruption.
If Joy Behar and the hosts of *The View* want to get more Republicans on their show, they should stop suggesting it’s a matter of bravery. Conservatives aren’t intimidated by them; they’re frustrated by the hypocrisy. The show welcomes convicted criminals but aggressively challenges those with different political views, which seems inconsistent with Disney’s image of family-friendly programming.
When a show celebrates someone like Anthony Weiner but silences Cheryl Hines, it’s not about courage; it’s about what the show finds objectionable.
A Pattern of Partisanship
The episode where Hines faced tough questioning also featured Joy Behar suggesting Republicans are afraid. However, Behar’s comment, along with how Hines was treated and the show’s previous support of Anthony Weiner, likely explains why many conservatives choose not to watch *The View*.
Riley Gaines reported being denied a speaking opportunity. Donald Trump Jr. said he was interrupted and heckled. And Cheryl Hines, while not a Republican, experienced what many watching felt was an unfair and aggressive encounter.

Joy Behar claims the show aims for open discussion. However, when conversations feel like interrogations, it’s understandable why so few conservatives are willing to participate.
