He lost Anakin Skywalker – his closest friend, the only family he’d ever truly known, and the very reason he fought.
The story shows that Obi-Wan Kenobi wasn’t a perfect, unfeeling being. Even the most powerful Jedi struggled with his emotions. At one point, he lost his connection to the Force and went into hiding, believing he’d failed. But his strong spirit wouldn’t let him stay hidden for long.
By the end of the Disney+ series, Obi-Wan has reconnected with his identity as a Jedi. While Anakin attempts to make amends too late, Obi-Wan realizes what he needs to do in time to help save the galaxy. The experienced Jedi Master has healed, though he still carries the emotional wounds of past losses. He’s now prepared to do whatever is necessary, even if it means making the ultimate sacrifice.
As a film fan, I’ve always seen Obi-Wan Kenobi as the perfect Jedi. He feels things, deeply, but he never lets those feelings overwhelm him. Despite experiencing huge losses and terrible events, he consistently chooses restraint over anger. Even when confronted by someone who’s caused him immense pain, his moral compass remains unwavering. Honestly, to me, he embodies everything a Jedi should be – I don’t think there’s a stronger or more admirable Jedi out there.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Influenced the Next Generation of Jedi
As a film fan, I’ve always thought Obi-Wan Kenobi was brilliantly positioned to shape the next generation of Jedi. It’s so poignant that, right before he passed, he got to begin Luke Skywalker’s training. Even though their time together was tragically brief, Obi-Wan clearly left a huge impression on Luke, something that stayed with him throughout his journey.
While Yoda ultimately finished Luke’s Jedi training, Obi-Wan Kenobi had the biggest impact on the kind of Jedi Luke became. In their brief time together, Obi-Wan not only taught Luke skills, but also encouraged him to maintain the strong moral character that had protected Obi-Wan from falling to the dark side many times before. This guidance proved crucial to Luke’s decisions throughout the original Star Wars trilogy.
Luke Skywalker’s strong moral character, developed thanks to his early training, allows him to resist the Emperor’s attempts to turn him to the dark side in Return of the Jedi. Despite his fear and anger, he refuses to kill his father, choosing instead to remain a Jedi, like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Facing a similar challenge his father once did, Luke follows Obi-Wan’s example, consistently choosing the path of good despite great suffering and loss.
He established a new school to train a new generation of Force-sensitive individuals, sharing the knowledge Obi-Wan Kenobi had passed on to him. He taught students like Grogu, Ben Solo, and Rey Skywalker, ensuring Obi-Wan’s legacy and strength continued for many years after his passing.
While Obi-Wan Kenobi might not be the most naturally gifted Jedi – he wasn’t as powerful with a lightsaber as Mace Windu or as strong in the Force as Yoda – his unwavering determination and strong moral character set him apart. Ultimately, these qualities make him the most compelling and strongest character in the entire Star Wars saga.
