The movie is mostly in black and white, with occasional use of color. The preview showed Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily Rose Depp playing a couple from a village, walking along in worn clothes with their children. A deep voice warns, ‘Do not dread the darkness,’ accompanied by quick cuts of violent scenes and horses running through the woods. The clip concluded with a close-up of Taylor-Johnson screaming, but didn’t show the monster itself – a tactic similar to how the creature was kept hidden in the original marketing for Nosferatu.
It’s not surprising that the marketing for Werwulf is keeping the creature itself hidden for now. The recent film Nosferatu also kept its villain’s monstrous form largely under wraps in its trailers. However, the footage does confirm that Taylor-Johnson will be the one transforming into the werewolf, so it’s likely we’ll see the Kraven the Hunter actor embrace his monstrous side soon. We actually got a brief glimpse of the werewolf’s appearance when photos from the set were leaked online late last year.
