‘Practical Magic’ (1998)
A new movie continuing the story of Practical Magic will be released this fall. However, the first film remains beloved, even after almost thirty years. It stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who come from a family of witches. Sally has stopped using magic after her husband’s death, which was caused by a family curse, and Gillian left home years ago in search of a forbidden love.
Gillian returns home after discovering her ex-lover, James “Jimmy” Angelov (Goran Višnjić), is dangerously violent. Even after death, Jimmy remains evil and determined to harm Gillian and Sally. To save themselves and their family, the sisters must confront their past traumas and fully use their abilities to defeat the forces threatening them.

‘Pride’ (2007)
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always drawn to inspiring stories, and Pride is one of them. It’s based on the real life of Jim Ellis, played by Terrence Howard, a talented coach back in the ’70s who struggled to find a good job despite having a fantastic education. Eventually, he ended up coaching at a pretty run-down recreation center in Philadelphia, and let’s just say he didn’t exactly hit it off with the existing janitor, Elston Johnson, brilliantly portrayed by Bernie Mac. It’s a story about overcoming obstacles and finding connection in unexpected places.
Ellis and Johnson start working together to improve the rundown recreation center. More significantly, Ellis uses his college swimming experience to coach a group of local Black teenagers, helping them develop into competitive swimmers. While the teens show promising talent, Ellis realizes that a pool isn’t enough to build a winning team. He also knows he can’t do it alone; their success ultimately depends on their own abilities.

‘Dead of Winter’ (2025)
Could Emma Thompson follow in Liam Neeson’s footsteps and transition into action roles? It’s still unclear if her new thriller, Dead of Winter, is a one-time venture or the start of a new direction for the actress. She plays Barb, a widow mourning her husband and hoping to scatter his ashes. However, before she can do that, Barb witnesses a young woman named Leah (Laurel Marsden) being held captive by a couple, played by Judy Greer and Marc Menchaca.
Barb wasn’t looking for a fight, but she couldn’t leave Leah to face these dangerous people alone. While she might not win in a direct fight, Barb is clever and quick-thinking, giving her a chance to escape when the pair starts pursuing her like a prize.
