What’s Next for the Dragon Ball Franchise?
Dragon Ball fans have a lot to look forward to, and the next big release is the home media version of Dragon Ball DAIMA. It will be available on August 11th in both a regular edition and a limited edition, about five months after its originally planned release date.
Although Dragon Ball DAIMA received a lot of positive attention from critics and fans when it premiered in 2025, it wasn’t universally loved. In fact, Akira Torishima, the creator of Dragon Ball, publicly criticized the new series at Comicon Napoli in May, calling it “sht” and stating that he believed it betrayed the spirit of Dragon Ball*. He described it as slow, foolish, and the first episode as pointless, expressing confusion about how it had been greenlit, and claimed that everyone at Toei Animation disliked him.
Fans of Dragon Ball have a new treat to look forward to later this year: Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. Originally released in January, this version isn’t a brand-new story, but a remastered and slightly updated version of the very first arc of Dragon Ball Super.
The upcoming series will follow up on the events of the first Dragon Ball Super anime Moro.
