Ahead of the season premiere, Hardy opened up about taking on the role of the notorious gangster.
After working on ‘Locke’ with Steven Knight, I really started craving roles where the character is incredibly self-contained. I loved how much emotional weight that film demanded, all while dealing with really complex, flawed people. Honestly, I find the world of gangsters particularly fascinating – it’s such high drama, and let’s face it, it’s often deeply immoral, which makes it compelling to explore as an actor.
The first season of MobLand launched in March 2025 and quickly became a hit, landing as the second most-watched show on Paramount+. Just three months after its debut, the series was picked up for a second season.
Jez Butterworth, the writer and executive producer of MobLand, initially hesitated about working on television. However, he said the creative vision and smart planning of Chris, David, and the teams at Paramount and 101 Studios convinced him to take the leap. He described working with Chris, David, Guy, and the cast as incredibly inspiring and expressed his enthusiasm for starting the second season of MobLand.
Filming for MobLand season 2 finished earlier in 2024. While a release date hasn’t been confirmed, it’s anticipated to be available later this year.
