The hearse transporting a coffin decorated with flower spellings of “Ozzy,” bearing the late singer, traveled past his childhood residence on Lodge Road, Aston, approximately around noon.
Arrangements of flowers were set up near Villa Park outside the terraced home, with a photograph of Osbourne displayed in the front window of the residence instead.
Sharon took the front of the group, accompanied by her kids Jack, Aimee, and Kelly, along with Louis – Ozzy’s child from a previous relationship. They all supported one another in the face of heart-wrenching sorrow.
A multitude of individuals could be seen gathering, not just on Black Sabbath Bridge, but all throughout the city center route leading to the Black Sabbath Bridge’s bench, as the procession passed by.
Enthusiastic spectators applauded and shouted “Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy” while the rock icon’s funeral procession moved through the streets of Birmingham. Sharon observed from the sidelines, wiping away tears as she did so.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham recently praised Ozzy as a ‘true embodiment of a hometown hero,’ expressing: “During our brief time together, I found him incredibly humble and genuinely grounded. He truly represents the spirit of the common people, making him a genuine working-class hero.
It was hard to guess that he was a renowned rock star; instead, he seemed like an everyday, compassionate individual. Born and bred in the working-class neighborhood of Aston, he cherished his city deeply and never missed an opportunity to showcase Birmingham’s charm wherever he traveled. He always wore his hometown pride on his sleeve.
His rallying cry was “Birmingham Forever,” and I feel so proud as a resident. Today seemed like his final grand gesture.
In recognition of their exceptional contributions to the city, Ozzy Osbourne and his Black Sabbath band members (Terence ‘Geezer’ Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward) were bestowed the honorary title of “Freemen” of Birmingham.
Ozzy is survived by his wife Sharon and his five children Jessica, Louis, Aimee, Kelly and Jack.
According to Ozzy’s family, they shared the news that he had passed away, surrounded by love. They expressed their deep sorrow in a way that words couldn’t fully capture.
