Both Anderson and Headey acted brilliantly, and critics overwhelmingly loved their performances. However, the story itself isn’t as strong.

Honestly, I wasn’t blown away by The Abandons. The idea of strong women in the Old West feels pretty overdone at this point – Netflix already did similar things with shows like Godless and American Primeval. Everyone’s saying this new show doesn’t really bring anything new to the table, it’s just…there. It’s well-made, sure, but it doesn’t have a unique look, feel, or even a clear point of view. It’s just…competent, which isn’t enough to make it stand out.

It’s disappointing that despite some dramatic moments and beautiful scenery, the show feels familiar, especially since it doesn’t offer much new beyond its focus on female characters. While it covers a lot of ground, it lacks real emotional resonance.

TIME:

The scenes where the main characters clash are meant to be the highlights, but they don’t quite work. This is because the movie doesn’t fully commit to being either a gritty, realistic drama or a fun, over-the-top rivalry, leaving these confrontations feeling underwhelming.
