If The Mandalorian returns for a fourth season – which creator Jon Favreau has hinted at – it should take a lesson from The Mandalorian & Grogu. Season 3 struggled compared to the first two seasons because it lost sight of what made the show special: the bond between Din Djarin and Grogu. Instead, it spent too much time on broader storylines like the planet Mandalore, Bo-Katan Kryze’s quest for power, and the Darksaber’s history.
Previous storylines didn’t quite deliver and lacked strong bonding moments between Din and Grogu. However, The Mandalorian & Grogu directly addresses this, keeping the pair together for most of the film and prioritizing their relationship. While other plot points occur, the movie always focuses on Din and Grogu, making it much more enjoyable than The Mandalorian season 3. Season 4 of The Mandalorian should aim to capture this same heartwarming quality.
The Mandalorian Franchise Can Still Improve
Okay, so I really think The Mandalorian can bounce back after what I thought was a bit of a weak season 3. A lot of people were saying the show, now called The Mandalorian & Grogu, felt unnecessary because it didn’t really connect to the bigger Star Wars story, but honestly, I think that’s what hurt season 3. And it doesn’t even make sense – focusing on the story did help Grogu grow as a character, which was great to see!
The show dedicates a significant portion to Grogu, giving him more independence and a stronger storyline than we’ve seen before. This leads some to believe Din Djarin’s story has reached a natural conclusion after season 3. Now, the series could focus on Grogu’s journey, showing him mature with each episode. With Din continuing to mentor him, as he did in The Mandalorian & Grogu, Grogu’s future is full of potential, and the show can continue to evolve and get even better.
